Weekly Grindings

Our week kicked off here at the Grind last Sunday evening with Phemie Alcott, RL meant I was late to the party, but luckily for me she had yet to sing my personal favourite from her new EP Raising the Black, Chaos, always such a treat to hear Phemie perform live.

Lyndon Heart took the stage next, always delights with his covers and mixture of heartfelt and fun originals, Never the Same Girl Twice in particular an original I have much affection for.

DennyMac was up next, beautiful acoustic work accompanies this rich voice that seems to speak to your heart, although my tastes in his originals run toward the food group, with Wild Strawberries a beautiful piece of pure instrumental and Pizza a fun song sure to make you smile.

Next up was the fabulous Billy Thunders, such a sexy soulful voice, a wealth of originals have yet to hear them all, the heartfelt lyrics of From an Honest Place and Where I've Been from the 2012 Album Stones are personal favourites so far.

Reggie Sunset was our finale for Sunday evening, another fabulous performer with a great catalogue of original work, my Way Back Home a simply beautiful ballad that never fails to stir the emotions.

Wednesday kicked off with Gypsy Druha, a warm soulful, unique voice, a variety of musical styles is expected at a Druha performance with entertaining originals and personalized acoustic covers. Body Heat a current favourite of her originals.

The beautiful and sweet voice of Shannon Oherlihy took the stream next, always a delight to hear a performance. Shannon creates contemporary folk music with rich vocals and songs that resonate with a strong sense of the human experience.

Ke Aloha was our finale for Wednesday evening, Ke pours his heart and soul into each performance and never fails to connect on a very personal level with his audience and this performance was no exception and truly an emotional one.

Thursday kicked off with my favourite fiddle slut Ms Beth Odets. Beth is a classically trained concert violinist, as expected an eclectic mix of covers and original work at one of Beth's performances, along with laughter.

Matthew took the stage next, unique and often irreverent originals and selected covers and mash-ups coupled with his dry take on the human experience make The Matthew Show truly an unique experience not to be missed.

A new performer to myself and the Grind took the stage next, Senjata Witt, eclectic blues with hints of folk come through in her songs and voice, am really looking forward to hearing more from this performer.

Wald Schridde was our finale for the evening and the week, his one man renaissance band performances always such a treat, classic traditional folk songs beautifully accompanied by a range of instruments by Wald, guitar, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, mandolin, recorders, and whistles.

Hope to see all you Dirty Grinders turn out for our fabulous performers in the coming week........

Field Tripping

Good weekend Dirty Grinders, what a wonderful week of field tripping......

My field tripping week started with the fabulous Vinnie on Monday afternoon. A new performer to the Grind and myself, Vinnie passion for music really comes across in his shows, alas RL dragged me away too quickly (people were hungry and threatening to cut my internet....;-) but was lucky enough to catch half a set at a new venue, LA Metro, late Saturday night (actually was dawn for me ;-).

Tuesday took me to our sister venue Hotel Chelsea to listen to the delightful voice of Ms Phemie Alcott, a firm favourite of mine, exquisite piano work accompanies her rich beautiful voice, her Ep Raising the Black contains 3 wonderful original tracks, Chaos, Hard to Believe and My Heart is a Rogue.

The night followed with Doug Lind at the Pier, Doug is Scottish, a fellow Celt, always a great show from Doug, his originals emotional and heartfelt and I do so enjoy when he sings Caledonia.

Wednesday I caught a field trip before our lives shows commenced for the evening at The Dirty Grind. This time to Commune Utopia and Gweeb, sun a fun performer to catch with upbeat originals like Fried Egg Sandwich (with Bacon Marmalade) and Haven't kissed you yet is a show sure to put a smile on your face.

Friday took me to Surfside once again to listen to the amazing acoustic work of Bat Masters, who will be returning to The Dirty Grind this Thursday at 4pm, another newer performer to myself but what have caught so far am very much looking forward to hearing more of.

Saturday field trips contained a very special fund-raising event, Phemie Alcott Presents: !ndustry for Nepal, 8 ½ hours of awesome musicians and dj's performed to raise money, included in the myriad of performers the amazing Phemie herself. Alas I wish could have been there for it all but did make it for a couple of hours and caught our fabulous Anidi Huet. Over 420K was raised in lindens for Nepal, an incredible achievement.

Heres to a a fabulous accomplishment by Phemie et al of !ndustry for Nepal, and to another great week of indie music ahead........

Weekly Grindings

Our week at the Dirty Grind kicked off Monday evening with our special event the Red Heaven – Moth album release party and live listen.

Wednesday saw the start of our live performances for the week, kicked off in grand grind style by The Vinnie Show. Vinnie truly pours his heart and soul into his performances, such a joy to listen too.

Next to take the stream was the fabulous Winston Ackland, as always a true delight to catch a show, always hopeful for his cover of Psycho Killer, and Wednesday he did not disappoint.

Kinagree-Smith with Ira too were up for the next hour, am eclectic sound sensation these three, what is it that is so memorizing when they sing The Bad Touch?

Our finale for the night, Ren Enberg and Quai Franklin, Ren's voice is sassy, soulful and simply a delight to listen too, a perfect way to end the evening.

Thursday kicked off with 'The Matthew Show' is true when they say there is no-one like Matthew, his shows and originals are unique and inspired, I do so enjoy his performances and irreverent take on life.

EffinJay, the Frogg and Jaycatt took the stage next, these two a long-time favourite of mine, a repertoire of beautiful originals, with a smattering of selected covers, always such a joy to catch these guys.

Last up for the evening, Mr Benski Korhonen, the mix of music always eclectic, from ragtime to classic rock, his originals are such fun, just like Benski himself, always smile a little brighter when he dedicates a song to 'all the ladies'......

Hope to see all you Dirty Grinders during our next amazing week! Hours are extending at The Dirty Grind, keep your eye's peeled for our additional live performances!

Field Tripping 6th & 8th May

Hello again my fellow field tripping Grinders, hope you are all having a lovely relaxing weekend :-)

A field trip schedule full to bursting this week, but alas I couldn't attend them all...........

My first field trip foray of the week too me to Shannon Oherlihy's Chill Area, on Tuesday evening, a lovely little beach side spot, cozy little camp fire, really intimate setting which indeed suits Shannon's music very well. Her originals are both delightful and intensely personal I always feel when listening, with Standing Sill a favorite.

My next two field trip attendances were Friday, the first to Surfside Hideaway, a great little venue and and a warm welcome is always guaranteed by the lovely Desi and DC. The performer? none other than my favourite fiddle slut in the whole wide world, Beth Odets (in a t-shirt reading 'I Don't Hate Matthew Perrault'??). The sweet voiced lunatic never fails to entertain and put a smile on my face, her album 'I'm Not Matthew' a mixture of deep, hilarious and downright naughty original songs, with a couple of original, instrumental pieces on her violin, Celtic Thing is simply beautiful.

My final field trip took me to our sister venue Hotel Chelsea, the infamous mecca of bohemia, to listen to the delightful voice of Anidi Huet, the first few seconds I ever listened to this ladies wonderful voice I melted. Such a beautiful falsetto, the covers she makes her own and her originals are delightful, I thoroughly encourage to Anidi to make her originals available online, I'll be first in the queue to purchase.

Hope to see all you fellow dirty Grinders out field tripping soon, have a great week ahead full of fun and remember support indie music!

The Grind & Me

Hello fellow Dirty Grinders, thought I would share something a little different today..........

As many regulars may have noticed, there is a new face in recent months at The Grind, mine :-) I'm SapphFire, hostess and manager, yes I am the winged creature who if you are a regular visitor to our live music nights, will have greeted and spelt you name wrong on at least one occasion ;-) my apologies.

I first found Jasmines Hollow and subsequently The Dirty Grind a while ago off the SL destination guide, explored the sim a few times and always enjoyed when I could visit on live music nights. Although described by Lisa and Ian as an Adirondack steampunk destination, I always loved the whimsical touches around the sim, and myself have always characterised as steampunk whimsy, sorry you guys ;-)

One day this late January I saw a group post, asking for a hostess, in an effort to be more social and a genuine affection for this particular venue and sim, I contacted Lisa and Ian, It wasn't long at all before I was nervously hosting my first evening at The Grind. I thank you all for the warm welcome of my new face and forgiveness of my screw ups. Luckily I already knew live music nights are always sure be filled will great music, awesome people and lots of laughter here ;-)

Lisa and Ian are such a wonderful, generous, kind and genuine couple to know and work with, giving little old homeless me a cottage on Jasmines Hollow too :-) A few months ago I was both honoured and overjoyed to be asked if would like the position as Manager of The Grind.

I found something so much more than I could of ever imagined in my short time here so far, a wonderful community, new friends and some awesome new artists to enjoy. Is very rewarding to be a small cog in the workings of something rather special here on Jasmines Hollow. I have really enjoyed and relished the opportunity Lisa and Ian have given me in being part of the growing community here, which is what The Dirty Grind and Radio Grind is all about, the community of fabulous auditory and visual artists and those awesome people who appreciate.

To grow further we are in need of those awesome individuals with a passion for art and live music to help with hosting live events and contributors for our blog, as we expand hours and nights at The Dirty Grind and grow of community of performers and artists. If you are interested in becoming a gear in the workings of The Dirty Grind Independent Artist Community we would love to hear from you.
